The Pilgrimage

In the fall of 2024, five individuals will be paying their own way to undertake the arduous 500-mile journey known as the Camino de Santiago. There are many paths to get to the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela in northwest Spain where the remains of the apostle James are enshrined, but the Walking for Wise pilgrims will be traveling the route known as the Camino Frances which begins in St. Jean Pied de Port in southwest France. The pilgrimage, which dates back more than eleven centuries, will take approximately 35 days to complete meaning that we will be averaging about 15 miles of walking per day. Since people from all over the globe endeavor to make the pilgrimage, the journey becomes more than just a difficult walk. It becomes the perfect metaphor for the pilgrimage we all take in our daily lives, one where we form new relationships, one where we are able to receive and lend assistance to one another in our times of need and one where we are able to overcome obstacles to accomplish the impossible.
